Tour de TV

August 10, 2009

First off, hats off to Versus channel for broadcasting the Tour de France in HD TV. The race wasn’t that exciting early on but the images wee unreal on my 46″ screen. Something I did this year to motivate myself to ride more is mimic the route in my own way. For every mile the [...]

Spring training

July 20, 2009

I’ve used a Polar CS600 computer with power meter all winter for indoor training and I cannot begin to tell you how much MORE effective it is to train via power instead of heart rate. I busted my butt with 2×20 intervals twice a week all spring. I took a break for most of May [...]

Breakin the bank

October 25, 2008

I have already blown my 2009 bike budget. However I think I spent wisely. I used the MS Live cash back program to save almost $400 on Ebay purchases. So far I’ve bought: Reynolds Assault carbon clincher wheelset SRAM Force group with SRAM Red 165mm crankset Reynolds UL carbon fork Polar CS600 HR monitor w/power [...]

First ride

October 19, 2008

I got in my first ride on the new Reynolds Assaults; a 40-miler up the coast, heading inland on Ballona Creek then back up the lower hills of Palos Verdes. It was a great ride. The wheels definitely catch more side winds than shallower rims. It took me about 30 minutes to adjust to that. [...]

Trail of Tears

September 15, 2008

Once again I let myself get suckered by Mother Nature. Sunday I set out on the Santa Ana River Trail, 27 mile out and (unless something goes drastically wrong) 27 mile back route. I’ve only been on it once before but without my computer so I had no idea how far I went. I started [...]

Them’s the brakes

January 29, 2008

I needed new brake pads if I was going to use the Zipps on the road. Normal pads eat carbon rims because they have metal shards embedded in them from use with alloy rims. I picked up some Swiss Stop Yellows from Competitive Cyclist, which was stupid since they’re $10 cheaper at Excel Sports and [...]

Computerized Bike Fitting

January 21, 2008

This weekend I went to the UCI World Cup track cycling competition at ADT EVent Center. I try to volunteer every year so I can get in free to see the events I’m not working. It also gives me a chance to get up close to the racers and their bikes. I took some pictures [...]

Stealth!

January 4, 2008

The roadster is looking pretty snazzy with the Zipps. Someday I may have these rebuilt with black spokes and blue alloy nipples.

And here they are!

December 29, 2007

Three lightly used but custom-made Zipp 404′s – rims dimpled and de-badged. 24-hole front laced to Ultegra hub. 28-hole rear laced to Ultegra hub. 28-hole rear w/cassette body replaced with Surley fixer hub. Conti Sprinter Gatorskins on all three. By swapping the front QR skewer with an Allen key axle this set works for the [...]
